I can’t just sit on the beach for days and do nothing. It’s not who I am. I always need a good morning adventure to start the day. When your bestie happens to be on vacation with you, you grab her and go and explore.
This hike begins at La Pérouse Bay which is at the end of the road in South Maui beyond Wailea and Makena. The trail passes through an area of overgrown Kiawe trees near the shoreline where you will probably see several feral goats. After passing through the forest, you’ll come to a barren expanse of lava. The lava field is completely exposed so make sure you take plenty of water. We didn’t make it all the way to the Lighthouse. Instead we cut right over to the edge of the ocean to be greeted with this incredible view.
