Dog mountain is a short out and back hike that is perfect for beginners who want the view, but not quite in shape to climb a mountain. This is a busy trail for locals, tourists and families. In the winter it is a well maintained in bound snowshoe trail that is free of charge. You won’t be able to park in the alpine lot unless you have a ski pass, so park along Seymour Road on the left as you approach the ski area.

Should you want to make it a loop, you can head out to Dog Mountain and return via Suicide Bluffs. Be aware that Suicide Bluffs isn’t a very well maintained trail so use at your own risk. This option is not accessible during the winter months.

In the winter, parking can be chaotic and if you end up far below the main lot, you will need to hike up on the road. One way to avoid this is to start at the Deep Cove Lookout and head up to Dog Mountain via the Perimeter Trail. This option will provide you with signifiant more distance and elevation.
