BLACKCOMB ALPINE

Overlord Trail to Lakeside Loop

6 km | 290 m

There’s something so special about alpine hiking, which we only discovered a few years ago. The terrain, the wildflowers and the views just can’t be beat. This isn’t an overly technical or difficult hike and the views are magical. It is also less popular than the High Note Trail so not as busy.

You begin your hike by heading up the Alpine Walk from Rendezvous. Blackcomb Lake is a beautiful spot to stop for a picnic and the loop isn’t too tough so your kids can easily do it. Nothing like lunch with a view.

We recommend staying left at the junctions and doing the loop clockwise. Everyone tends to do it this way so you won’t be walking against traffic.

Decker Loop

10 km | 510 m | 3 hours

My favourite part is the Decker Loop. It’s a big climb with big rewards. The views of Blackcomb Mountain, Decker Mountain and over to Flute and Oboe Summit is truly spectacular.

Hike it the way Alltrails tells you to so you’re going up the steep side of the loop and down the other side, which is more of a slow descent. Watch your footing, but take your time to enjoy the 360 degree views this has to offer.

FULL ASCENT & DECKER LOOP

16 km | 1,710 m | 5 hours

You will need a pass/ticket to access this loop unless you’re hard core and wish to do the full Ascent Trail first to access the trail head. This will add 6.5 km and 1, 200 m elevation gain to your journey. You can also consider doing half the Ascent and taking the gondola the rest of the way. The gondola doesn’t open until 9:30 am so this was a great solution for me when I did it. I rather be hiking than waiting around for it to open.
